From complex data to clear financial decisions

The context

Alpa is building a financial OS for the hospitality industry. They connect POS, banking, and supplier data in one place to give restaurant operators a real-time understanding of their business. An ambitious product, complex data, and high expectations, all at once.

The problem

The product was powerful, but power without clarity does not scale. Financial data was dense, key insights were buried in heavy tables, multi-location logic was confusing, and onboarding created friction. Users were not stuck because of missing features — they were stuck because they could not understand what was already there. When users don't understand, they don't trust. And when they don't trust, they don't act.

What we did

We plugged in as a dedicated developer and started shipping on day one. No hiring, no onboarding wait, no slowdown. Over three months we rebuilt the P&L and cash flow screens from scratch, implemented comparison systems for previous periods and budgets, and organized heavy tables with hierarchy and grouping. We reworked the POS and bank onboarding flows, clarified account and location mapping, and built consistent components and APIs for financial data. We implemented real-time notification and alert logic, and added first-time user guidance and contextual onboarding. Everything shipped ready to deploy, with clear rationale, async.

The impact

Users read and understand their data instantly. Decisions are made faster and with more confidence, and onboarding friction dropped sharply. Product consistency improved across the board, and the team ships faster without development bottlenecks. The product didn't just look better — it became usable at scale.

**Rebuild the P&L screen from the ground up**The slow, hard-to-read P&L was rebuilt — we reworked the aggregation logic and table rendering to make it fast and clear.

**Implement bank account connection and mapping**After open-banking connection, we built the flow for users to select the right accounts and map them to each location.
