The context
Winter helps individuals understand energy consumption and take action to reduce it. It connects energy data, analyzes usage patterns, and turns them into actionable insights, from small eco-actions to complex renovation projects. An ambitious vision, complex data, and a strong behavioral challenge: turning awareness into action.
The problem
The product had the right foundations, but the experience was not driving engagement at the right level. Key information like consumption, DPE, and savings potential lacked hierarchy and clarity. Actions were present, but not contextualized enough to trigger adoption. Complex topics like energy renovation were hard to introduce in a simple, actionable way. Users were not lacking features — they were lacking clarity, guidance, and momentum. And when users don't clearly see value, they don't act.
What we did
We plugged in as a dedicated developer and started shipping on day one. No hiring, no onboarding wait, no slowdown. Over seven months we rebuilt the self-audit experience from scratch, made renovation scenarios easy to reach, and reworked signature flows and user journeys. We restructured the core experience around actionability and clarity — rebuilding the dashboard to better show consumption versus savings potential, clarifying the information hierarchy, and strengthening entry points into key features. We rebuilt the Actions experience to improve comprehension, navigation, and feedback loops, designed new onboarding questionnaire logic to improve usability and data quality, and hardened edge-case handling. Everything shipped ready to deploy, async.
The impact
Users understand their energy situation and where to act more clearly. The product shifted from only showing information to driving action, and complex topics like renovation became approachable and structured. Engagement increased through clearer entry points and feedback loops, and the team ships faster on a stronger, more consistent foundation.
